Gene prides himself on his ability to suss people out and have a working idea about their backstory within about ten minutes of contact. He’s good at predicting what they’ve done and what they’re yet to do. He knows when people are lying—to him or to themselves.

So it vexes him that Sam is a mystery.

The Life on Mars Mini Reversebang 2016 (Artists sign up closed/Writers sign up OPEN)

Thanks so much to all the artists who've signed up for the Mini Reversebang 2016. You should have received an email confirming your sign up. If you haven't can you please contact me? Now you get to create your artworks! Please remember: they need to be able to inspire a short piece of fiction (1500 words minimum), AND you may want to think of a prompt sentence to post for claims. Drafts of your artwork are due March 22nd 2016. More about how and where will become available closer to the date.

Now!

Are you a writer? Have you ever attempted to create drabbles, short fiction, novellas, novels, or a series of novels (or MORE than one series of novels)?

Does the idea of participating in a challenge where you'll write a piece inspired by someone else's artwork entice you or even make you shrug and go 'sounds okay'?

Then, have I got the event for you. As part of the magnificent celebrations that 10 years have passed since Life on Mars first graced our screens, the Life on Mars 2016 Mini Reversebang is a-go.

Not sure what I'm talking about? A reversebang is the reverse of a big bang. The Life on Mars big bang occurred in 2011 and it was wonderful. In a big bang, writers create stories first and artists claim drafts of their writing as inspirations for artworks. The two pieces are displayed together. A reversebang reverses the claiming: artists create artwork first and writers claim drafts of their artwork as inspirations for stories. The two pieces are, once again, displayed together.

Writers will be claiming artwork March 25th, and stories will be due May 25th. Writer sign ups end February 9th.

Writers please sign up here (via Livejournal) or here (via googleforms).
(Please choose one platform - either LJ OR google. Unless you're trying to cheat and create six different pieces, at which point I have to ask: why?)

10th Year Anniversary

10 years ago from today, a television show started airing in the UK. It had a committed and talented crew. It had a stellar cast - although most of the actors at that point weren't household names. It had a seriously wicked advertising campaign.

It started with a seemingly simple but somewhat out-there premise: My name is Sam Tyler. I had an accident, and I woke up in 1973. Am I mad, in a coma, or back in time? Whatever's happened, it's like I've landed on a different planet. Now, maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home.

And it launched the greatest fandom I've ever come across. It allowed me to meet people who would become some of my closest friends.

I will always and forever love this show. Whether for you it's been 10 years of loving it, or 10 months, I hope you join me in celebrating the 10th anniversary of its inception.

Announcing the Life on Mars 2016 Mini Reversebang

Are you an artist? Have you ever attempted to create hand-drawn visual art pieces, digital visual art pieces, graphics, gifs, manips, fanvids and/or fanmixes?

Does the idea of participating in a challenge where a writer will be inspired by your artwork thrill or even mildly interest you?

Then, have I got the event for you. As part of the magnificent celebrations that 10 years have passed since Life on Mars first graced our screens, the Life on Mars 2016 Mini Reversebang is a-go.

10th Year Anniversary Things (No. I have not forgotten.)

First up: the lovely Matthew Graham has been tweeting using the hashtag LifeonMars10. (Of especial note, something many of us already know, but made me laugh again regardless: his first idea for Gene's last name was 'Burrows'. Oh man. As if the slash weren't rampant enough.)

Second, the beautiful life_in_print sent along this interesting article about how a 1970s police officer changed their mind. It mentions Life on Mars, including that it was a hit 10 years ago. Even though I've been saying this, I still don't really believe it, you know?

Third! Sign-ups for the mini-reversebang will be starting shortly. I'm thinking sign-ups for artists will end 25th January. There just isn't really enough time for the actual art to be due by then. Also, I might have been temporarily waylaid by figgy pudding and Christmas cake and scorching hot Australian summer days.

Please spread the word when sign-ups start, as I have a feeling not everyone is keeping a close eye on the comm.
